Carole Teller
New York, with its myriad sights, shapes and images, offers me a lifetime of inspiration. I never tire of discerning new relationships of forms, light and detail in the architecture of the city. Rooftops are a world of their own; sometimes being a refuge from a hectic life below, but always reflecting urban life. Tenement rooftops are a link to history, a reminder of life at a different time, yet still vital. Pointed cylindrical water towers rise above like guardians protecting a way of life.
I look for the abstract forms within the realistic scene and then combine it with a touch of humanity that gives the picture its meaning.
